How much is the base price for a home to build on my own lot. The man who answered in the uptown Charlotte office told me it depends on which town I build in. I asked why should the base price of my home matter on where the lot is located?

I asked just for the house itself not the land or any of the prep costs. This means that they can charge a huge premium on a home that may cost the same to be built in a less desirable area. So they would charge me more for living in Fort Mill or South Park for example then they would charge me for an area where the prices in the developments are a lot lower. So because of this they could not give me a base price of a home. He then said Im telling you right now we wont build a home for under $300,000.

Our discussions with staff told us they were fully aware of how to raise any safeguarding issues and were confident the senior staff in the service would listen. There were end of life care arrangements in place to ensure people had a comfortable and dignified death. They knew people well and were able to describe people’s individual likes and dislikes. Tests for COVID-19 were carried out in line with guidance where possible. If a test result was positive, the person was required to isolate in line with government guidance. We carried out a review of the data available to us about Moorend Place on 8 December 2022.

Following the inspection the registered manager informed us that an additional activities worker would be recruited for the service. Staff spoken with made very positive comments about the staff team and registered manager. There were planned and regular checks completed at the service to check the quality and safety of the service provided. Individual risk assessments were completed for people so that identifiable risks were managed effectively. However, we found one person did not have a repositioning chart and another person did not have an observation chart in place.

People who lived at the service, relatives and the visitors told us they had been involved in meetings where quality of service had been discussed. They said staff at the service were open to suggestions and always looking to improve. There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. The visitors to the service and people who lived at the service told us that there was a sufficient number of staff on duty. They told us that staff worked very hard and supported the people who lived at the service.

This meant people were cared for by suitably qualified staff who had been assessed as safe to work with people. Staff handovers enabled information about people’s wellbeing and care needs to be shared effectively and responsively. All the people we spoke with made positive comments about the quality of the food at the service. People also told us there were snacks and drinks available between mealtimes. This is the latest available inspection report for this service, carried out on 30th March 2010.

We found that this monitoring could be improved by analysing occurrences in more detail to ensure any trends were identified. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives. Staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. Staff told us they felt supported and told us there was a good team working at the service. Staff had received appropriate supervision and appraisals to enable them to carry out the duties they were employed to perform.

Staff had access to cleaning products and the cleaning of high touch areas such as door handles and hand rails, were cleaned regularly. However, some areas of the service were not well maintained and therefore unable to be effectively cleaned. We have had confirmation from the provider these are included on their action plan and are being addressed.

At the time of our inspection 53 people were living at the service. Moorend Place is a 52 bed care home, which provides nursing care and residential care for people living with dementia. The first floor derwent is a 30 bed unit with both residential and nursing client. We saw the service promoted people’s wellbeing by taking account of their needs including activities within the service. We received positive comments about the activities worker and we saw how well they interacted with people. We saw the service would benefit from having an additional activities worker to support people to further participate and engage in more personalised and smaller group activities.

We saw this was fully embedded in everything the service and staff did. People, relatives and staff felt respected, listened to, and influential. Our motivation is to ensure that positive relationships are at the core of what we do every day, along with high quality teaching and pastoral care overseen by strong and passionate leadership. Emma was appointed as the home manager of Moorend Place in October 2017. Having worked in the care industry for over 9 years, starting as a carer, Emma has managed to gain a strong under-pinning knowledge of how care homes are run. Moorend Place is 52 Bedded nursing and residential home, specialising in Dementia care. The home is situated in Walkley, a mile from Sheffield city centre which allows for easy access. We found some staff had not received a comprehensive induction and that was relevant to their role. This told us people were at risk of not receiving the care and treatment and support from staff who are knowledgeable and competent to carry out their roles. A few people's personal hygiene records indicated they had been supported to have a daily body wash but they had not had a shower or bath during July. We spoke with the manager who assured us that people would be supported with their personal hygiene to maintain their dignity. We found the service had responded to people and/or their representative’s concerns, investigated them and had taken action to address their concerns.

The service was selected to take part in this thematic review which is seeking to identify examples of good practice in infection prevention and control. A copy of the latest relatives meeting minutes was available for people and visitors to the service to read in the reception area. There was a relative’s board where people’s relatives or representatives were kept informed about information relevant to them. During the inspection we observed domestic staff cleaning different parts of the service. However, we found there were malodours on one of the stairways and in the lounge areas of the home. We spoke with the registered manager who assured us that they would take action to address these concerns. We saw evidence that regular checks were undertaken of the premises and equipment.

Instead, he feels happier and more content than he has for years. His agitation is greatly reduced and as a result, has only had one fall at Moorend Place. Dad transferred into Moorend Place a couple of weeks ago from another care home in order to be closer to be his family.

I like to feel that I can make a difference to peoples’ lives who suffer from dementia. Roseberry Care Centres is a company where people matter, and that applies to our staff as well as to the people who use our services. We approach the delivery of care on what we call “The Care Partnership” basis. Simply, this means that you and your family retain full control of how your care should be delivered.

We also found some people's risk assessment and care plans had not always been reviewed within the monthly timescale specified within the document or in response to a change in their needs. For example, one person's urinary; bowel and oral assessment had not been reviewed since the 1st of April 2014. Another person's challenging behaviour had not been reviewed since 1st April 2014. People and relatives we spoke with told us the service was well managed and made positive comments about the registered manager. We noticed that some staff had been working at the service for a significant amount of time with no further Disclosure and Barring Service checks recorded. We recommend the registered provider considers requesting staff to complete an annual self-declaration relating to criminal convictions incurred since their previous criminal record check was provided.

During the inspection we did not find any concerns about infection control. Safeguarding procedures to protect people from abuse were robust and staff understood how to safeguard people they supported. Accommodation, meals, and assistance with personal care and medication. Our National Housing for Older People Awards celebrate examples of successful retirement housing and housing-with-care. With a few exceptions, accommodation in a care home cannot be bought or rented like retirement housing. Think of them more like full-board hotel accommodation with 24 hour care available.

Management is also excellent, if we have any concerns they are quickly dealt with. There is a happy atmosphere throughout the home with staff and residents. The courtyard is located on the ground floor of the building, this can be accessed via the Dementia café. The courtyard is fully paved and enclosed so easy access can be achieved by wheelchair users. This area is large and offers residents the opportunity to sit and relax in the garden. Our friendly team of dedicated managers and carers have a wealth of experience coupled with a genuine desire to provide the very highest levels of service to those in our care.

They are provided by many local Age UKs as well as other organisations. Daily help, including personal care, is available on site and one or more meals are available daily in a dining room or restaurant. Additional facilities are also common – for example hairdressing salons, hobby rooms and gyms.

I visit weekly and always find my friend and all residents to be well cared for and treated with great kindness and dignity. Mum settled into Moorend really quickly and was always comfortable and content throughout her 2 years there. All the staff treated her with care and dignity and were always cheerful. The staff do a difficult job really well, we were so pleased to have found Moorend Place. During my time at Moorend, I have developed new skills and abilities. I am happy working here because it is local for me and the staff are nice to work with.

Care provided

We saw any actions identified to improve the safety of the service were completed. Resident and relatives meetings took place so people had opportunities to feedback about the service and suggest improvements. This showed the registered provider actively sought out the views of people to continuously improve the service. We found people’s care plans and risk assessments were reviewed regularly and in response to any change in needs.
